Our Commitment to Orthodox Multimedia

Webmaster's note, 5/11/08: Since we first started this page several years ago, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of websites providing high quality Orthodox-oriented audio, video, streaming internet radio broadcasts, and especially the now ubiquitous podcast. These are fast becoming a rich source of information both for Orthodox Christians wishing to learn more about their faith and for those who are discovering the Orthodox Church for the first time. It should be noted that much of this programming has originated not from official church sources, but from committed members of the Orthodox laity. As more of this programming becomes available, we will support its growth by including links to those programs and networks. Watch our welcome page and this page for more program links as they become available.

Another webmaster note, March 4th, 2013: Many of the video materials from GOTelecom and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America website have been copied to YouTube. One result of this is that the videos are now available in higher quality than was previously available online. The Archdiocese's YouTube page can be accessed here, and you can subscribe to the page. In addition, we will on a regular basis feature one of the videos on our home page. Just click the link to watch the featured video.

1. The Orthodox Christian Network -- We'll let them use internet multimedia to tell their story:

From their About OCN page:

OCN Ministry Overview
Orthodox Christian Network (OCN), an agency of SCOBA (Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas), has been established to create a national, sustainable and effective media witness for the Orthodox Christian Church in North America. OCN produces high-quality programs and media tools for local parishes that reach people for Christ 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Our Mission
To strengthen the Orthodox communities of North America and to share the timeless faith of Orthodoxy with the contemporary world by using modern media: radio, the Internet, podcasts, DVDs, television and more.

Our Vision
To inspire the faithful everywhere; raise up our children; call back the wayward; and reach beyond to our cities and towns with the joyful, Christ-centered message of the Orthodox Christian Church.

OCN produces Come Receive the Light, a long-running syndicated Orthodox program that can be heard on radio stations nationwide and over the internet. OCN also operates three internet streaming radio stations:
The Ark, offering contemporary Orthodox Christian music; The Rudder, offering listeners the option of traditional Orthodox Christian liturgical music; and The Anchor, featuring Orthodox talk radio. For offline listening, OCN offers podcasts of Come Receive the Light and other programs produced exclusively in podcast format. Podcasts may be downloaded free through iTunes or directly from the OCN website. Finally, OCN recently joined in a partnership with Icon New Media Network (see below) to distribute Icon New Media's programming to a wider audience.

2. Ancient Faith Radio

From their About Us page:

Our Mission:
Ancient Faith Radio seeks to deepen and enrich the faith of Orthodox Christians around the world with streaming audio programming and on-demand podcasts. We feature liturgical music from a variety of Orthodox traditions, as well as prayers, readings, lectures, and interviews.

Ancient Faith Radio is a division of Conciliar Media Ministries, which operates under the auspices of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America. However, it is a pan-Orthodox ministry and thus serves and supports all jurisdictions.

Ancient Faith Radio offers two 24 hour internet-based Orthodox radio stations, Ancient Faith Music and Ancient Faith Talk. Ancient Faith Music features traditional Orthodox liturgical music, while Ancient Faith Talk features original programming dealing with Orthodox theology and life.

Ancient Faith Radio is a pan-Orthodox ministry seeking to serve and support all jurisdictions with clear and concise expressions of the faith. Learn about the story of Ancient Faith Radio as told in this article in The Word magazine.

Ancient Faith Radio's programming schedule for AF Talk can be viewed here. Podcasts of Ancient Faith Radio's programming can be downloaded through iTunes or directly from AFR's website.

3. Icon New Media Network -- Again, we'll let them use internet multimedia to tell their story:

From their About Us page:

At the center of the Icon New Media Network, we believe that Orthodox Christianity is the future of American Spirituality.

Our desire is to introduce Orthodox Christianity to emergent, post-evangelical and non-Christian audiences. Through the use of new media (blogs, podcasts, video, etc.) we aim to create environments where Orthodox Christians and those interested in this radical ancient faith can converse about and collaborate on resources that lead to a fuller understanding of Christianity. This is done by providing places for people to gather and communicate both online and offline about the relevance and necessity of our 2000-year-old Church.

Icon New Media Network's flagship programs, Generation Orthodox and The Man in Black (but not Johnny Cash), can be visited from our welcome page as well as this page. Finally, Icon New Media Network recently joined in a partnership with the Orthodox Christian Network (see above) to distribute Icon New Media's content to a wider audience. Their first joint venture, Journeys to Orthodoxy, is an interview program in which converts to Orthodoxy discuss their conversion stories with Icon New Media creative director Jacob Lee. All audio programming is available in podcast form through iTunes or from the Icon New Media and OCN websites.
